Plotlines...

This part is harder then i thought =/ I looked up on it and the research part was easy but it's much tougher to write story with different routes. I guess i'm just not used to it. I found this picture in lemmasoft and it kind of shows you how to plot the story for multiple endings.

It's just a simple story graph. The nodes represent the different events that happens and they are meant to be about 5-10mins long. It just requires alot of planning. Since i have 3 main characters i think i'll somehow match it to the 3 routes. I've already decided to make the setting in school since the background consists of mostly in school and the characters are all wearing uniform. I'm writing from a girls perspective so it's going to be an otome game.

In terms for the writng, i got all my resource from this thread. They have everything from articles, tips to grammer. I found it extremely useful, it really puts me into the right mindset. I have alot of ideas now so i think i'm going to use Novelty software now and start writing. Wish me luck =D

Background/ Character Art

I've been searching for free art that i can use for the VN and i came across some very good sites. The research pays off nicely ^^. I'm not that talented at drawing so using free art was my only option to go. These are the moments when you wished you didn't slack off as much during art class haha.

It's a username from Pixiv.net, i must say the background is stunning. I'm definitely going to incorporate them into my VN. I'm so amazed that it's free, wow like seriously you have to take a look.

Has anyone seen this site before? I'm pretty happy with the artwork, most of them looked really professional =D. The y have alot of materials, their background isn't as good as the one on top so i'll be taking the characters from this site instead. Anyway i think i searched through all the characters and am pretty happy with what i chose... Sneak Peak xD!

I also found OLEVN Community Wiki (http://wiki.renai.us/wiki/Main_Page). It's a place where creators of Visual Novels go to share information about game making. There's a list of helpful links to free resource, information and essays. Feel free to check it out. I got what i need already in terms of artwork so now i'm going to start ploting the story or research on writing. Anyway see you in abit lol ^.^

VN Maker?

Good afternoon! Right since i don't have much time i jump to the most important part, the VN maker software. Simply put i can't make one without it. I'll just a brief note on Novelty and Ren'py, this might be useful to some other people like me who is doing NaNoRenO within a short notice.

Novelty is a free game making tool for creating your own visual novels and 2D games. It is Visual point & click programming with "Actions". This means that there is no actual programming required. However they still support Scripting service. The programme allows you to create and share art assets easily. Novice users will still be able to make their own visual novels without writing a single line of code.

Ren'Py is a visual novel engine that helps you use words, images, and sounds to tell stories with the computer. It presents the user with a scripting language, in this case python with custom libraries. The easy to learn script language allows you to efficiently write large visual novels, the simple Python scripting is enough for to create complex simulation games. Ren'Py is open source and free for commercial use. It supports Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Android. A point to note is that it’s created by a western developer so it has English documentation and a healthy hobbyist community.

These two are the most popular choice for beginners like me. After ending so much about them, i decided to give each a go. First off i really liked how Ren'py has a built in tutorial, i don't need to go online to read about it on their forum. I'm still using cable connection from my sitting room so i find this quite useful knowing that i can still work on it without the internet. Novelty however is so easy to use that i don't need the tutorial. Overall after trying the two of them i'm going to use Novetly. I really don't have time to learn scripting. I know it's simple enough but i'm just not used to the style of scripting. I feel like Novelty gives me more control with the point and click system. However i would definitely give Ren'py a go if i have more time ;)

First Post! ^.^

Brief introduction on myself, I'm basically a mini otaku who likes anime, manga and video/online games. The reason why i'm starting this blog is to write about my progression on NaNoRenO. (Don't ask me why it's spelt like this with random cap lock, I have no idea lol) and the occasionally post on other otaku stuff. Well for those who doesn't know what NaNoRenO is, it's basically an event where people make a playable visual novel (VN) within the month of March.

I came across NaNoRenO in lemma soft forum and thought to myself "Why not give it a go?". So yea i'm starting it right now. I find it much easier to stick to one thing if you write about what you are doing or will do. It always motivates me to finish what i started and keeps me on track of everything ^^. Hopefully this will work for me in finishing NaNoRenO. It's the 5th already so i'm a few days behind everyone. Anyway i'll try my best to keep posting on my progress and see how it goes. Wish me luck i guess, Peace out xD!
